First question is often about what makes one bike worth £100s more than another. £1000s even. Big topic. Within the most common Cycle to Work range we have many bikes from about £250 to £1000, so it’s a reasonable question.

Like most things, the more you pay the more you get. With cycles it’s to do with technology and specification of the main components – primarily frame, gears, brakes, wheels, suspension.

Brands … we’ve outlined our general philosophy on the Podium page, and the same applies with bikes.  We do the research for you and stock only those that stand out for quality, performance and value. We stock a number of cycle brands to offer a range of styles combined with quality that provides value at all price points. Of these, our two core flagship brands are Trek and Merida.

 

Trek are widely recognised as one of the top brands of bike in the world. Up there with the best.  They of course have a very comprehensive range of quality bikes for just about every situation, and we have many suitable for Cycle to Work. You won’t find them at the lowest end of price ranges but for a little bit more you have a great selection of premier league bikes.

 

Merida is a relatively new name to the public, though not to major cycle manufacturers. For many years they made key components, such as frames, for some of the biggest and best brands in the world. More recently they’ve developed their own ranges of bikes from a purpose built design centre in Germany. This has resulted in an exciting and growing range of terrific bikes. So succesful that most of their manufacturing capacity is now taken up with their own products. Great designs, high spec components and VERY competitive pricing. Manufactured in their own high tech factories it’s a combination that is bringing them a well deserved reputation for real quality products at truly outstanding value. Should be on anyone’s short list.
